What is a Certified Fundraising Executive?

As the nonprofit sector has grown, so needs qualified fundraisers. A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) is a professional who has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively solicit and manage charitable donations. The CFRE credential is granted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and is recognized by the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) as the standard of excellence in fundraising. To earn the CFRE designation, an individual must have at least five years of professional fundraising experience, pass a written examination, and agree to adhere to the AFP Code of Ethics. The CFRE credential is valid for three years, after which time the individual must complete continuing education requirements to maintain their certification. With the CFRE credential, fundraisers can be confident that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively help nonprofit's achieve their goals.
